Abstract
1. The cardiac slowing by intraventricular oxymetazoline was weakened, but not abolished, either by the pretreatment of the rabbit with scopolamine or by attenuating the pressor effect of intraventricular oxymetazoline with prazosin.
2. The cardiac slowing by intraventricular oxymetazoline after scopolamine treatment or prazosin administration was markedly inhibited or almost abolished by intraventricular yohimbine and rauwolscine.
3. The results indicate that two components are participiating in the production of cardiac slowing by intraventricular oxymetazoline: activation of a2-adrenoceptors and reflex vagal action due to heightened blood pressure.
